Kinesiologists incorporate elements of OMT (Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy) as part of larger muscular and skeletal goals. They have access to accredited continuing education on structure and function. Variation in licensure may limit scope of practice and ability to work on certain aspects of myofunctional therapy which is why we offer a team approach to treatment in these cases (e.g. Concerns around speech clarity, dysphagia/swallowing, and pediatric feeding disorders).
They can provide myofascial release and manual adjustment including that for TMJD and Facial Pain. Those providers who specialize in infant and toddler development are permitted, with limited scope, to work on oral dysfunction.

Lindsay Knutson Smith is a Registered Manitoba Speech Language Pathologist. She graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2010 with a Master of Science in Communication Disorders. She is the founder and owner of SPOT Speech Pathology & Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. Lindsay has 12+ years of clinical experience in the education setting as a school based SLP, serving culturally and linguistically diverse populations. After her third child was born with a posterior tongue tie, Lindsay took the formal Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders training through the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM). This spurred her passion and interest in the area of tongue function and structural considerations in Speech Therapy. She has completed various Post Graduate trainings in TOTs (Tethered Oral Tissues), Oral Dysfunction, Oral Structural Development and Function. Much of this training involves refining how SLPs evaluate the oral mechanism and better educating families on the impact of tongue and lip-ties on oral function. Areas of related interest: Sleep Disordered Breathing, TMJD, Tongue Thrust therapy, Oral Habit elimination, Tongue tie, and how this all relates back to speech clarity and holistic wellness. Lindsay is in the process of working towards a SAC (Speech and Audiology Canada) Certification with a focus on Pediatric Feeding Disorders. Her passion is to identify areas of need within our current health and education systems and to help to improve information and access to supports for those areas. Lindsay lives in Rural Manitoba with her husband and three children. She has a healthy obsession with books, tea, and physical wellness - and enjoys spending her summers fishing & enjoying time with her family.
